Balancing Fitness Goals During The Weekend- What I Did

Helloooo!

How are you today?  It's a gorge Monday so that helps move things along smoothly, doesn't it?

I wanted to talk a little bit about how you can balance your fitness goals during the weekend while having drinks with your friends, going out to eat, etc.  When you first start to make changes and say no to certain foods, you may feel a little sad... like something has died.  Ha.  I am kidding.  Kind of.

For example, I recently decided to cut out dairy because I need my skin to clear up.  Dairy is not good for acne.  Therefore I had to say no to ice cream, cheese, and yogurt this weekend.  That was so tough for me because I love that stuff!  But I know that once I say no a couple more times, it will become easier and easier.  You have to WANT your goal more than the taste of something yummy that will only last 30 seconds to about 5 minutes.  BUT you also have to know when to treat yourself a little.    Let's delve into the decisions I made over the weekend.  It was the perfect weekend where I really had to practice balance and remember that I am getting into a dress in 3 months.  3 MONTHS!  Whhhhaaaaattt?

Friday night- Mike and I went to Bertucci's and then to the movies.  At Bertucci's I ordered:

-A glass of white Riesling (which is very rare... My go to is Pino Noir) and a water
-The Tuscan Roasted Vegetable Appetizer and asked for a piece of grilled chicken on top
-And I ate one roll with the amazing oil they set on the table

*At Bertucci's it is very easy to go hog wild.  I mean, who doesn't love their rolls and oil?  And the alcohol?  So easy to order two to three drinks.  I knew I was going to the movies so there was no reason to get buzzed.  One drink was fine for me.  Their pizzas are amazing and so are their pasta dishes, but there is a time and place for everything.  If I skipped on the alcohol and roll, then I would have probably ordered their personal pizza with vegetables and protein on top.  It is all about balance.*

I love eating something sweet after dinner.  For the most part, I think a lot of women are like me.  They want to pop a hershey kiss in their mouth or something of the like after a savory meal.  Since we were going to the movies and I felt satisfied from dinner, I did not want order a full box of candy so I went to the fifty cent machine and got a handful of m&m's.  It was the perfect amount and I didn't weigh myself down.

All in all, I loved my night out.  I felt like I treated myself, but I walked away without wishing I had ordered something different.

Saturday- Mike and I wanted hoagies for lunch.  And we have been craving donuts like crazy so we opted to treat ourselves to that.  I ordered:

-Half of a tuna hoagie that they then cut into two pieces.  I asked for no extra mayo or oil on the roll and no cheese.  I wanted lettuce, tomato and oregano.  I ate half for lunch and then saved the other half for dinner.
- Hours later, we visited Yum Yums and I ordered two donuts.  A lemon powdered donut and chocolate thunder.  We waited to eat them until after dinner.  I ate half the lemon and half the chocolate.  I split the the rest with my sister and Mike.  So, I basically ate one donut.
-I drank a ton of water because I knew I had Spartan practice in the morning and I needed to be hydrated.  I stayed in and went to bed super early.

*I forgot to mention that I made a green monster smoothy for breakfast that morning*

Sunday- We had Spartan practice and we went to my mom's for a bbq later in the day!  All day I ate:

- A small bowl of cereal and strawberries before practice with a lot of water.  Ps- practice was tough with a lot of hills sprints!
-For lunch Mike and I went to Salad Works.  I ordered a salad with egg, olives, cucumbers, carrots, and broccoli with raspberry vinaigrette.  I finished sixty percent of it.   I also ate a wheat roll with butter.  And a water.
-We went to my moms and she had an array of apps out.  Tortilla chips and salsa, olives and cheese.  I snacked on a couple tortilla chips and had one glass of sangria.
-For dinner I chose one burger on the smallest bun I have ever seen with one corn on the cob, tomatoes and basil, and very small servings of macaroni salad and baked beans.
-For dessert there was apple pie and ice cream.  I ate a sliver of the pie and then drank water for the rest of the night.

*If I were to skip on dessert, I would have had another glass of Sangria.  Since I had Spartan practice earlier in the day, I knew that I needed to fuel my body... and just a salad with egg would not build my energy back up.  That is why I chose red meat and a hefty amount of carbs for dinner.  You need to know when your body needs certain macronutrients to refuel itself. *

This morning I feel wonderful and am not regretting a single thing I did or ate this weekend.  As you can see, there were times when I could have eaten two donuts, or the whole hoagie at once or drank more than one alcoholic drink.  But I decided to take a step back, asses the situation and eat what I wanted within reason.  I also gave my body what it needed.  One thing I was really proud of:  I made room for vegetables!  Many people tend to skip vegetables during the weekend.  Don't do that!  Stay on track, but treat yourself a little!  I hope this helps you see that you can still reach your goals while having fun!

See you soon! xo
